IMAX Theatre Redevelopment

Jan 2017 - Jun 2017

Location

Darling Harbour, Sydney NSW

Contract value

$1 million

Project details

Supply and install 11kV in ground conduits and cabling, install temporary kiosks and build high voltage pits.

JDG Civil was contracted to undertake 11kV works at Darling Harbour once the demolition of the IMAX Theatre had been completed.  The project required us to supply and install in-ground conduits for 11kV distribution infrastructure, 11kV cable jointing/turning pits constructed in situ around live 11kV cables and two pad mounted kiosk substations.  Further works included identifying, isolating and removing redundant 11kV cables and decommissioning two existing substations.

The Darling Harbour site presented many challenges during our civil works due to the close proximity to Sydney Harbour.  Extreme care was taken to ensure that the environment was protected throughout construction.  Workers were also made aware of the potential of unearthing historically significant items and at one point work was suspended whilst NSW Heritage inspected the site and cleared us to proceed.

In successfully completing this project, our team demonstrated their ability to perform in a highly sensitive area in such a way as not to adversely impact Sydney Harbour and minimising the disruption to the general public by working out of hours in a popular city precinct.
